THE ANGRY MONKEY

WTF is THE ANGRY MONKEY?. The answer is different things for different people. To some it is the perfect dive-bar, boasting cheap beers by the bucket and gourmet dishes like the Monkey Burgers, Bucket O’ Crab and Sliced NY Sirloin. To others, it is your unordinary neighborhood watering-hole where aspiring drunks of all ages come to chat, chew, sip and repeat. An icon of Beirut boozemanship, The ANGRY MONKEY borrows its stylistic cues from prohibition-era speakeasies with its candlelit brick walls and salvaged wood floors. Slavishly decorated with elements that were scavenged at vintage shops and junkyards, the space boasts a rotating 3meter industrial fan and an old-school piano that doubles as a DJ Booth. The bar, which literally sets on fire, is fashioned from old fish crates and is chocked full of rare single malt scotches and other surprises. No matter what the answer is, one thing is for sure, The ANGRY MONKEY is something inside every one of us. Developed and opened in Summer of 2011 on Gemmayze in Beirut, this is the first venture Joey Ghazal developed in collaboration with his two brothers Eddie and Charlie Ghazal.
